FAQ

About Our Approach

1. What is the difference between functional and conventional medicine?

Conventional medicine is essential for acute crises and focuses on managing symptoms, often with medication. Functional medicine is a distinct approach that seeks to understand and address the complex, underlying root causes of chronic disease. It is the only methodology that uses a systems-biology framework to investigate how genetics, lifestyle, and environment interact to influence your long-term health.

2. What is the difference between functional, integrative, and holistic medicine?

While all three approaches focus on the whole person, functional medicine is unique in its primary goal of getting to the root cause of ailments. Integrative medicine focuses on combining conventional and complementary therapies, while holistic medicine emphasizes the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit.

  • After-Visit Summary & Plan: You’ll receive a detailed electronic summary of your discussion and your personalized treatment plan.
  • Lab Analysis & Preparation: Prior to any follow-up visits, Dr. Mahtani dedicates time to thoroughly analyze your new test results so that your face-to-face time is focused purely on strategy and protocol refinement.

4. What is the best way to reach Dr. Mahtani between visits?

To ensure Dr. Mahtani can provide the highly focused, unhurried care her patients expect, our communication pathways are structured by patient status:

  • New Patients: From your Comprehensive Initial Consultation through your first follow-up, you may reach Dr. Mahtani through our secure, HIPAA-compliant patient portal for questions related to your active plan as you begin your protocol.
  • Active Members: Membership includes continued direct access to Dr. Mahtani through the portal for questions related to your active treatment plan — a seamless continuation of the care begun in your first visits.
  • À La Carte / Non-Member Patients: Outside of an active onboarding period or membership, direct portal messaging is reserved for active members. If you have new symptoms, require protocol changes, or have complex clinical questions, we simply ask that you schedule a Follow-Up Consultation so Dr. Mahtani can give your concerns the dedicated clinical attention they require.

5. What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
